What HuniePop is

HuniePop is an adult single-player game from the studio HuniePot that mixes match-3 puzzles with dating. GOG's store page describes it as a gameplay-first approach that is part dating sim, part puzzle game, with light RPG elements and a visual novel style of presentation. It belongs to what the studio calls the Hunie series, and the studio's own news post calls it "the silly Match 3 game" and marked its 10th anniversary on January 19, 2025.

It is a paid game rather than a free-to-play one. The studio sells it through Steam, GOG and several other storefronts it names, and the GOG edition is DRM-free. The GOG page lists Windows and Linux as the officially supported systems, with English audio and text.

How it plays

The core is a puzzle board. GOG's description calls it an addicting match-3 style puzzle dating system with its own twists: upgradeable traits and stats, the ability to move any number of positions, and special date gifts that have a variety of effects on the puzzle. So a date is played as a match-3 round, and what you bring into it (the traits you have raised, the gifts you carry) changes how the board behaves.

Around the puzzle sits the dating layer. The page's feature list opens with 8 women, each with her own personality, preferences and style, and adds a rumor that several secret characters can be earned as well. There are hundreds of collectables, including gifts, outfits and photos, which the player can purchase, earn or open as special rewards. That gives the game a loop of dating, earning rewards, buying gifts and outfits and raising stats to do better on the next date.

The writing is described as an abrasive western style with plenty of "plot", and the presentation borrows from visual novels. The page lists the game as 2D and story rich, in the Simulation, Puzzle and Role-playing genres. The developer's own news post leans into the joke as well, treating the premise as silly and not as a serious romance.

The studio's anniversary post describes extras made for the 10th birthday. They were new anniversary artwork from the original character and background artist, a medley of 8 tracks from the soundtrack put together with the original composer and posted on YouTube, and a new official CG from the original CG artist for a fan favorite character named Audrey. The post says the CG is an alternative to her final CG in the game, drawn in the old 4:3 ratio, and that a full NSFW version was offered. The post adds that some players had been disappointed never to see all of that character in the original release.

Content and themes

GOG carries a mature content notice for the game. It says HuniePop contains explicit language, strong sexual themes and partial nudity and is intended for mature audiences. The store's tag list reads Indie, Story Rich, Role-playing, 2D, Puzzle, Simulation, Visual Novel, Mature, Sexual Content, Nudity, NSFW, Logic, Romance, Dating Sim, Puzzle Platformer and Match3.

Read together, that describes a 2D adult game whose adult content sits on top of a puzzle game, with a comic and crude voice in its writing. GOG files it under Simulation, Puzzle and Role-playing and lists it as a single-player game. The developer's site has a Patch link next to its store list, and the pages do not say what that patch changes.

Platforms and where to get it

The developer's site lists its stores in one row: Steam, GOG, Humble, MG, Nutaku and Fakku, followed by links for the soundtrack, an art book, a patch, a studio page and the sequel. The studio's anniversary post names the stores in its giveaway as Steam, GOG, Nutaku, MangaGamer, Fakku and Jast. GOG's page also lists a wallpaper as a goodie that comes with the purchase.

On GOG the page gives the following. The game is officially supported on Windows and Linux, and the blurb says it is for PC, Mac and Linux. A Mac notice on the same page adds that the game is 32-bit only and will not work on macOS 10.15 and up. The minimum requirements are Windows 10 or later, a 1.2 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, a DirectX 9 compatible graphics card and 1 GB of storage. GOG says its games have no DRM, can be played offline, and do not need GOG Galaxy, which is an optional client for achievements and cloud saves. A fully offline installer is available.

A deluxe edition upgrade is listed as DLC. The studio also sells the Hunie series as a bundle on Steam.

Price and model

HuniePop is bought once, with the deluxe edition upgrade as the one add-on GOG lists beside it. GOG prices the base game in whichever of CHF, EUR or USD its currency selector is set to. The store also advertises full refunds up to 30 days.

In October 2026 GOG's page shows a store user rating of 4.2 out of 5 from 316 reviews. The studio's pages do not give a price for the Steam edition. GOG also groups the game with the rest of the series and advertises a series discount for buying the titles together, which it says does not stack with other offers in the store.

There was also one free window. For the 10th anniversary the studio said that on January 19, 2025, and only that day, HuniePop could be had completely free from the participating stores, with a note that coordinating a giveaway across several stores is hard enough that a store could be late.

Development state and version

HuniePop is a finished, released game. The GOG product details give 2015 and name HuniePot as the company, and the studio's pages treat it as a title with a decade behind it. In October 2026 the pages give no version number for the game itself, and the most recent news post about it is the anniversary post dated January 19, 2025.

An earlier post from 2022 says the studio rebuilt its website, so huniepot.com now serves as the home for the whole Hunie series and for future news, while the older huniepop.com address still lists the stores. The sequel, HuniePop 2: Double Date, is a separate game with its own product page on GOG.

Who it suits

HuniePop suits an adult who likes match-3 puzzles with a comic, crude romance wrapped around them, and who wants a game they can own DRM-free and play offline on Windows or Linux. The stat upgrades and gift effects give the puzzle some depth beyond simple matching.

The caveats are practical. The page lists Windows and Linux as the supported systems, and its own Mac notice says the game will not run on macOS 10.15 and up. The game is not free to play, outside the 1-day giveaway. Someone looking for a long story-driven visual novel with branching choices will find the puzzle board is the center of the game, not the text.
