What Town of Magic is
Town of Magic is a free adventure role-playing game that blends visual novel storytelling with RPG systems. The developer, who signs the game's news posts as Deimus, describes it as an adventure game combining visual novel and RPG elements, with an animated pixel-art battle system. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, and the developer's site calls the game 100% free. A supporter edition on Patreon gets each new version first, so the free download always trails it.
The player controls Celica, a mage in training who arrives in the magical town of Agranor. The site frames the game as her erotic adventures there, so this is an adult game with explicit scenes, behind an 18+ gate on the developer's site.
How it plays
The story starts when Celica reaches town to train as a mage. Members of a mage guild called the Red Phoenix Guild greet her and help with training and knowledge of the magic arts. The synopsis says she is of mysterious origin and that monsters turn out to be sexually attracted to her, which may have something to do with her past. The town has a long history of battles against demons, and while on a mission she meets a strange ghost who, in the site's words, changes her life. Along the way she meets characters with questionable morals and intentions. Some become friends, and some become something more.
Play splits between exploring the town and fighting outside it. In town you decide where to go and what to do, discover new locations and events, and visit shops. Time passes with every event and action, with a day and night cycle, and different events happen at different hours. The game does not hand you a quest list. The developer's FAQ says the game is meant for the player to discover events by exploring, though the barkeeper at the tavern gives general hints, and a guild guard named Bert passes on missions and assignments. Some events only open once Celica reaches a certain level, so the FAQ advises fighting enemies to level up, and one of its own examples sends her to an abandoned house after midnight to meet the ghost, which takes an energy potion crafted through alchemy.
Relationships are a core system. Each character has a relationship meter, and the way you behave toward them affects it. Some characters help during the adventure and in battles. Later in the game Celica can possess and control various characters.
Battle mode takes place outside town, where you test your magic against monsters. Combat features multiple status ailments such as poison, paralysis and petrification, and enemies can inflict them on you too. Some monsters will try to have their way with you in combat, as the page puts it. You level up, learn multiple magic spells, pick up skills from equipment and find equipment and magic items that give benefits in events and battles, and some of those items change the character's appearance. An alchemy system lets you combine items and craft magic potions. The FAQ adds a practical note: a used potion becomes an empty bottle, and the same bottle can be reused to craft more potions.
There is an outfit system too, including a tailor where you change Celica's style. The game keeps a quest menu that shows the total number of events in the build and how many you have seen, and a pop-up when you speak to the barkeeper tells you when no events remain in the build you are playing. That is the developer's answer to how you know you have reached the end of what exists so far. Saves carry over between versions, according to the FAQ, which also advises keeping a save at the start of each in-game day.
Content and themes
Town of Magic is a fantasy game set in a magical town, with guilds, mages, demons, ghosts and monsters. The protagonist is a female character, and the site presents the cast as a mix of allies, guild members, town residents and an order of mages. The pixel art is animated in battle, events and sex scenes, so the erotic content is shown as animated pixel scenes rather than still images. Its themes, as the page words them, include monsters who are sexually drawn to the heroine, combat encounters that turn sexual, relationship building and the possession of other characters. New builds, according to the developer's news posts, add events, characters, locations and enemies alongside the erotic scenes.
The game's own wiki, linked from the site menu, lists clothing sets for Celica, including a witch set, a belly dance set, an elf set and a steampunk set, which gives a sense of how far the outfit system goes. It also groups the cast under the Red Phoenix Guild, other allies, Agranor residents and an Order of Mages.
Platforms and where to get it
The official download page offers the game for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. The free edition is downloaded from the developer's own download page, and the home page also points to the game's page on itch.io for the free download. The supporter edition is released through the developer's Patreon page, and the home page also lists UniFans as another way to support the project for people who cannot create a Patreon account. The FAQ confirms that other support routes exist for that reason.
The game is built on the Ren'Py engine. The FAQ states that antivirus programs sometimes raise false-positive warnings on games built with it, and the developer says the game is fully tested and clean. The same FAQ gives the folder where saves are stored on each of the 4 platforms, Android included.
Price and model
The model is simple. The game is free, and the developer's FAQ answers the question of whether it is free with a plain yes. The supporter model works through Patreon: every time the developer updates the game, Patreon supporters receive it first, and the free edition is described as always being an older version of the Patreon edition. The site does not list Patreon tier names or prices on the pages read, so what a supporter pays is something to check on the Patreon page itself.
In October 2026 the download page lists the Free Edition as version 0.76 and the Patreon Edition as version 0.77, labeled the latest version. The FAQ states that a new version is released every 1-2 months. The developer also says that once Patreon support is large enough, tasks will be outsourced and updates will come more often.
Development state and version
As of October 2026 the news section shows a game still being added to, with a Patreon build release and a public build release both posted on September 27, 2026. The Patreon build notes, for version 0.77.002, list 10 new events, 6 new characters and 9 new locations. The public build notes, for version 0.76.006, list 4 new events, 2 new enemies, 3 new locations and 2 new features, plus a new world. The notes for that public build also record an update of the Ren'Py engine to 8.5.3.
The FAQ gives the developer's plan for future updates: new narrative quests, new events, new sex scenes, new enemies, new spells, new areas and more relationship content for the various NPCs. On how big the game will get, the developer says only that the aim is to make it as big as possible, limited by the time development takes.
Who it suits and who it does not
This suits a player who wants a free, exploration-driven adult RPG with a visual novel layer, and who is happy to learn the town by walking around it rather than following a marker. The relationship meters and the day and night timing give a long-play structure that rewards revisiting characters. It also suits someone who wants the game on Android as well as on a desktop, since both are offered from the same project.
The caveats are real. The free edition is always one release behind the Patreon edition, so the newest content costs support money. As of October 2026 the game is still receiving new builds, with a quest menu that can tell you there are no more events for the current build. Events are found by exploration rather than guided, and the FAQ shows the developer fielding questions about stuck progress, so patience with unmarked objectives helps. The site does not state a play-time figure or a final scope.
